English – Comparative And Superlative Adjectives

One syllable adjectives generally form the comparative by adding -er and the superlative by adding -est, e.g.:

Adjective Comparative Superlative
soft softer the softest
cheap cheaper the cheapest
sweet sweeter the sweetest
